Biography

Masoumeh Simbar is a professor of Midwifery and Reproductive Health at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) and the director of the Midwifery and Reproductive (SBMU)Health Research Center (MRHRC).

She has more than 470 papers in the indexed Journals and with an h index of 47 based on Google Scholar, and h 28 based on Scopus. She is also the first-ranked scientist among university professors in the fields of Midwifery and Reproductive Health in Iran.

She was the first graduated one in Reproductive health in Iran (from the University of Sydney). She initiated her research activities at the National Research Center for Reproductive Health (NRCRH) affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MOHME) in 1996 in Tehran. In 2001, She started her work in the Department of Midwifery and Reproductive Health of SBMU.

She has been a member of the board of midwifery and reproductive health if the Ministry of Health since 2005. He is also a member of the founding board of two research centers affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, including (1) Midwifery and Reproductive Health Research Center (MRHRC), (2) Reproductive Endocrinology Research Center (RERC) in the Research Institute of Endocrine Sciences. She has conducted several researches in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, the Industry Department, Tehran Municipality, the Presidential Office and the Ministry of Health. She was an adjunct professor at the universities of Tehran, Isfahan and Tarbiat Modarres to teach master's and doctoral courses. She has about 6 years of experience as the research deputy of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.

She was invited as the professor of Reproductive health to many reproductive health-related policy-making agendas in the Ministry of Health such as: reducing maternal mortality and morbidity, improving the quality of Midwifery care, promoting normal vaginal delivery, and reducing the rate of cesarean section, and so on.

She was the previous chief editor of the Journal of Advances in Nursing and Midwifery (from SBMU journals) as well as she is a member of the editorial board of 7 other international indexed academic Journals.

She was the professor of theoretical and practical courses for Ph.D. students (such as; quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research Methods, systemic review and meta-analysis, Reproductive Health Rights, Women Empowerment, Educational management in Reproductive Health, Planning and evaluation of maternal and child services), Master Midwifery (such as; Research methods, Reproductive Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Instructional design, Methods of teaching and students' assessment, Theories and Models of health behavior, Health care management) and BSc Midwifery (such as Maternal- Child Health, Health Principles and Community Health and Epidemiology). She was also a trainer in the university hospitals for Prenatal care, Sonography, and Radiology in Midwifery, Gynecology, Physiopathology and Midwifery, Maternal Child Health, Semiology, and Management of Reproductive Health Services. She was the supervisor or advisor of more than 150 Ph.D. and master theses.

She was also awarded as the best professor or researcher of the university several times.  She was also awarded as the author of the best book (the textbook of Pregnancy and Childbirth) of the year in Iran (2023).

She was also invited for many presentations at many academic conferences in different countries including the USA (Washington DC), UK, Norway, Italy, France, Thailand, Turkey, Egypt, Spain, and China.
